Video editors' line-up

Tuesday, October 18, 9:45 am at Karbone. As the MIFC opens its 10th edition, nine publishers met to present their upcoming video releases.

To open the first day of the 10th MIFC, Tiphaine Pirlot-Marion, for the CNC, reminded the audience of the commissions and selective aids intended for publishers, and gave figures for the unitary aid which last year affected 208 projects out of 257, with a total of €1,181,177 allocated to 56% of heritage works in volume, and 70% in value. As for the support to the editorial program, 566 projects were supported in 2021 and € 3,085,726 granted for 57% of heritage works supported, in volume and value. Tamasa Distribution then took the microphone to present the upcoming releases of The Criminal Life of Archibald de la Cruz by Luis Buñuel, The Death of a Bureaucrat by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea and Remparts of Clay by Jean-Louis Bertuccelli. The editor focused on the upcoming theatrical release of Marco Ferreri's La grande bouffe for the 50th anniversary of its selection at Cannes, and the 4K restoration of Iván Zulueta's Arrebato, screened Wednesday night at the MIFC. Malavida followed, showcasing its work on filmmakers Dušan Makavejev and Jiří Menzel, as well as its collection of classic Czech films with the addition of Oldřich Lipský's Happy End, Jaroslav Papoušek's Ecce homo Homolka, and Jan Schmidt's End of August at the Hotel Ozone. Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau's musical Jeanne et le garçon formidable will get a theatrical and 4K Blu-Ray re-release. Studiocanal has presented its box sets dedicated to Patrick Dewaere and Romy Schneider, and its collection Nos Années 70' which will be divided into several waves, including 7 films in the first one (with among others Défense de savoir) then 3 titles every 3 months. The next wave will include L'ordinateur des pompes funèbres by Gérard Pirès, unreleased in physical format. ESC Editions then announced the upcoming release of Alexandre Arcady's film Le grand pardon, restored in 4K. 25 titles will also join the ESC label for the year 2023, most of which are Blu-Ray releases such as La guerre des polices or Ace Ventura 1 & 2, but also historical frescoes such as La plus grande histoire du monde or action films like American Warrior. At Carlotta Films, several box sets are announced, including one dedicated to the Japanese director Kinuyo Tanaka, and another to Pier Paolo Pasolini. Rimini Editions, for its first participation, announced this line-up the release of four new boxed sets: Laurence Olivier's Hamlet, John Huston's Freud, Secret Passion and a double event on John Ford. Pathé Films has highlighted the restorations of S'en fout la mort by Claire Denis, conducted with the director, Big Guns by Duccio Tessari and Samurai, in a 4K format and scheduled for late 2023. For Gaumont Video, the line-up was an opportunity to present I... like Icarus as part of its Gaumont Classiques collection and the bonus features of The Thirst for Gold, but also its streaming platform ‘Gaumont Classiques’ and its 500th edition red covers, that is to say, an anthology of short films in 2 DVDs. Finally, Sidonis concluded this meeting by presenting the upcoming edition of the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe by Roger Corman, its Charles Bronson collection and its classic western releases.
