Simone Appleby is Head of the Laboratory Department of the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC).
Graduating with a 1st Class BA(Hons) Degree from the Scottish Film School in 2001, Simone Appleby began her career in a photochemical laboratory specializing in 70mm. Within a few years, she became post production supervisor. She also, as Vice President of Euromax, the association dedicated to Large Format professionals produced symposiums across Europe for distributors such as IMAX, National Geographic, BBC etc.
Since 2012 she became Fotokem's official 65mm neg cutter in California and was called in to cut PT Anderson's The Master, Quentin Tarantino's Hateful Eight, and Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Oppenheimer. Also for Fotokem,in 2016 she scanned and QC'd the rushes for Star Wars VIII, The Last Jedi at Pinewood, London. As Head of the Restoration Laboratory Department at the CNC, she oversees the digitization, safeguarding and restoration of films. Participating in the expert group as a technical reference, she verifies the conformity of the return to film for each film restoration. In addition to her work at the CNC, she is currently involved in raising awareness of the importance of knowledge transfer.
