Aleksas Gilaitis
Aleksas Gilaitis is the Organiser and founder of early film festival Pirmoji Banga, The First Wave.
Aleksas Gilaitis is a freelance film preservationist and active member of bothinternational and national (Lithuanian) archival community.
After finishing his Film Studies (BA) in University of Iceland and Heritage Studies (Preservation and Presentation of Moving Image)(MA) in University of Amsterdam, he has kept his deep interest in film preservation issues in the broad sense. Since 2015 he has worked in various collection management, film restoration and archival film screening projects.
Furthermore, he is an active magic lanternist and film projectionist, mainly working with 16mm and 9.5mm projectors.
Aleksas is also the initiator of the archival film festival Pirmoji banga, which started in 2016 in Vilnius, which is oriented in presenting cinema history until around WWII. It is the only annual archival film festival/initiative in Baltic states.
