Laurent Jaoui

Laurent Jaoui is a screenwriter, director, and president of the U2R (Union des réalisatrices et réalisateurs).

It all began at veterinary school in Toulouse.
It continued at the Institut National des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels.
There, he met Raoul Ruiz. He worked as an assistant on two of his films.
Then came ten years of short films: eleven films directed.
Followed by twenty years of television films: sixteen dramas (including Sarah Bernhardt: Une Etoile en plein Jour, Dombais & Fils, La Traque, Camus, La Guerre des ondes) and seven documentaries (including Obama l’homme qui voulait changer le monde, Histoire de l’antisémitisme, Ukraine, Soldats de l’information).
Throughout this time, he wrote screenplays, some of which became films and others did not.

The Groupe 25 Images collective, on his initiative, became a union in February 2021, U2R – Union des réalisatrices et réalisatrices (Union of Female Directors), of which he was elected president. U2R became the first union representing all directors (animation, cinema, fiction, etc.), with more than 150 members. Laurent developed a platform project to breathe new life into forty years of unexploited fiction.
