Do-seong is a child monk who was abandoned by his mother when he was a baby and raised in a mountain temple by the head priest, a distant relative. He constantly misses his mother, who he has never seen. One day, Do-seong sees a widow, who came to the temple for a memorial service for her own dead son, who was about Do-seong’s age, and he feels her maternal affection. She also adores him as if he were her son, so she asks the head priest if she can adopt him, but he denies her request, explaining that Do-seoung has a full karma so he can’t let him out to the world.

Restoration notes:
The Korean Film Archive scanned the film in 4K resolution in 2019, and produced the final version after performing intensified digital restoration on the damaged parts, followed by sound restoration and color grading in 2020 and 2022. The 35mm master positive film and a release print were used for scanning the images, and a 16mm release print and the 35mm master positive film for the sound restoration. The scanning of the film, digital editing, sound restoration and digital color grading were all completed by The Korean Film Archive’s own restoration team. Image restoration was handled by Image Power Station Co., Ltd.
