A former soldier, now disabled, Andreas Pum lost a leg for the emperor and the fatherland. After leaving the army, he receives a license and a barrel organ. One day, he clashes with a well-dressed gentleman, disrupts public order and hits a policeman. Andreas Pum goes to prison, loses his license and becomes a toilet attendant at Café Halali after his release. It's only when he dies that he realizes he's always been too obedient.
