Magali Kabous

Magali Kabous - Associate Professor, Université Lumière Lyon 2 - External consultant to the French Embassy in Cuba (FSPI Cinema, since April 2022).

She received her Ph.D. from the University of Toulouse 2 in 2008 in Latin American Studies, specialising in the visual arts. Her research focuses on Latin American cinema as well as the relationship between art and politics. After several long-term research stays in Havana, she became an external consultant to the French Embassy in Cuba for the ‘Fonds de Solidarité pour les Projets Innovants’ (FSPI), which supports new cinemas and the Cuban cinematographic industry. The fund led to its launch in March 2022 and will run until the end of 2024. It is designed to develop and distribute Cuban institutional and independent films. In this context, her tasks include assessing the needs of Cubans, organising activities in partnership with various festivals and institutions, accompanying filmmakers during their stays in France, fostering co-production links between French and Cuban filmmakers, and implementing training courses in Cuba for directors, scriptwriters and technicians.
